Ms Meimei Leung joined World Vision China in April 2000 and has 15 years’ experience serving in various relief operations in China covering floods, earthquakes, snowstorms, mudslides and droughts. As the head of HEA (Humanitarian Emergency Affairs) in China, her duties included to provide leadership in design, planning and implementing disaster response programs, to provide management for World Vision China’s emergency relief and preparedness programs. Meimei oversees a team of 10 members located in 4 different locations in China. In October 2015, Meimei joined the East Asia Regional office in the role of regional HEA Director. She provides strategic leadership and advisory support to the Regional Office and Country Offices in the implementation of Humanitarian emergency response in the East Asia region. She also ensures that the Country Offices are building effective disaster resilience of partner communities through emergency preparedness, response, mitigation and transition plans. As a Regional Disaster Management Team member, Meimei has been deployed to tsunami response in Thailand (2005), Cyclone Sidr response in Bangladesh (2007) and Cyclone Ketsana response in Vietnam (2009-2010) and Thailand Floods (2011). Meimei has worked with the China team to mainstream DRR interventions into all WV China’s emergency responses. Since 2007, the China team has worked to improve inter-region collaboration & coordination and capacity building for DRR personnel. In addition, under the Child Focused Disaster Preparedness Program, designated funds and project activities could be focused on child protection and equipping children and their care-givers with the necessary knowledge to reduce risks and enhance child well-being in disasters. A number of child focused DRR materials were developed for use in schools and Child Friendly Spaces. In 2010-2013, WV China partnered with various Charity Federations to organize national and provincial level DRR conferences to raise public awareness on disaster risk reduction. World Vision China’s disaster risk reduction programs has reached out to over 700,000 children and community members. From 2013-2014, Meimei completed a graduate certificate course of Humanitarian Leadership with Deakin University, Australia. Meimei worships at the Kowloon Ling Liang Church. She likes cooking, gardening and beading.
